XeroCoat® AT – Anti-Tarnishing Coating

LED leadframe packages typically use a silver layer as a reflector/interconnect. Without adequate protection, the silver reflector may tarnish in high-sulfur environments leading to significant lumen degradation in the LED.

XeroCoat® AT is two-part liquid precursor which is converted into a thin layer of aluminosilicate glass at low temperature and atmospheric pressure. When appropriately applied, the glass layer forms a barrier that significantly reduces silver tarnishing in LED lead frames and potentially other applications. The glass layer is impervious to high blue light flux and stable to high temperature, making it the ideal optical barrier coating in LED applications.

XeroCoat® GL – Liquid-to-Glass Precursor

LED packages are a very harsh environment for organic adhesives, binders, and coatings. When subjected to intense blue and/or UV light, and potentially high temperatures, commonly-used organic materials such as silicones and epoxies may yellow, or suffer mechanical degradation, and so limit the lifetime of the devices. Replacing these organic materials with a temperature and light-stable glass may extend the lifetime of the LED and allow it to be run at a higher temperature and higher light output. UV-C applications are a particularly harsh environment silicone or epoxy adhesives may be completely unusable.

XeroCoat® GL is a liquid precursor, which is thermally converted into a thin layer of aluminosilicate glass. When appropriately applied, the glass layer can be used to attach components in LED packages.

Application examples include:

  • Phosphor-in-Glass (PiG) or ceramic phosphor emitters to LED substrates (GaN and sapphire).
  • Glass lenses to LED die. Glass types include borosilicate, quartz and fused silica.
  • Windows (glass or sapphire) in ceramic packages for UV-C.

XeroCoat® PH – Liquid-to-Glass Phosphor Binder

LED packages are a very harsh environment for organic adhesives, binders, and coatings. When subjected to intense blue and/or UV light, and potentially high temperatures, commonly-used organic materials such as silicones and epoxies may yellow, or suffer mechanical degradation, and so limit the lifetime of the devices. Replacing these organic materials with a temperature and light-stable glass may extend the lifetime of the LED and allow it to be run at a higher temperature and higher light output.

XeroCoat® PH is a liquid precursor which can be thermally converted to an aluminosilicate glass at low temperature. The product has been designed as a replacement for silicone or epoxy binders in LED leadframe or CoB devices, enabling higher temperature operation, or use in harsh environments where organic binders might otherwise be degraded.

XeroCoat®  Solutions for UV-C LED

UV-C LED are a particularly challenging environment for materials as most organic compounds degrade rapidly when subjected to UV-C radiation. Brisbane Materials offers a suite of materials solutions for UV-C LED including:
